Welcome to Ducato.co.uk the home of the Adventures of Big Bertha
Who is Big Bertha?
Bertha is a 2008 Fiat Ducato 120 Multijet LWB van that started it’s life off delivering shoes for Dr Martens and has now covered over 180,000 miles.
Since retirement from delivery duties, Bertha has been converted expertly into a motorhome.
She now spends her time acting as a motorhome to the family, and also a mobile workshop when her owner Richard is volunteering at the local heritage railway as part of a restoration team.
What features does Bertha have?
Put simply, lots!
- 1000w Inverter to provide 240v AC supply to the numerous plug sockets littered throughout.
- DC Power Supply
- 400w solar panel
- 2000wh battery pack
- Sink with both running water and grey water collection
- Toilet (of course!)
- DC powered compressor fridge
- 2 seater sofa (originally from Ikea)
- King Size bed
- Diesel heater with built in fuel tank
- Standard EHU external connectivity
Given the 240v facilities you won’t be surprised to know that many creature comforts have also been added. The kettle is particularly hard working, and boils in a respectable time given the 1000w limit on the power supply.
Who is the driver behind the wheel?
Richard, a 40 something year old Norfolk resident. By day, an accountant with 20+ years experience working in manufacturing. By night, an amateur mechanic who likes working on his beloved motorhome.
Of course, alongside every good man is a good woman, and we have had many happy adventures in Bertha over the last year covering 1000s of miles. Next year, will hopefully see many more.
