Big Bertha The Fiat Ducato Motorhome Conversion

Another day, another dollar

So today saw Big B go back to her roots, and get an outing as a work / delivery van.

With a rather large click and collect order from Ikea to sort, Bertha swallowed it up with ease.

Something that could not have been said for the other member of Team Bertha. Kevin the Kia is only just longer than the packages in question, and would have no hope of fitting them in.

Due to the length of the parcels at over 2 metres, they had to be laid on the bed and fed in through the back doors. So up and in they went!

The collection of these was timed to be convenient with another day volunteering. At the Mid Norfolk Railway as I am often am, this weekend was the start of the Polar Express season. Consequently, today was my first guards turn on the ‘Polar Set’ in 11 months.

I’ll write more about being a guard at The Mid Norfolk Railway. And also the joys of guarding the Polar Express at another point. Possibly over on my personal blog.

What’s coming up?

Next weekend will also see Bertha put to work again, going back to her Fiat Ducato delivery van days. As, what goes in, must come out, and I need to go drop the boxes of flatpack off. Once that is done, she’ll be due a decent clean out from all the work she has been supporting. Hopefully, we can then get away exploring on an adventure at the end of the month.

I’m relatively lucky, in that I have a few places fairly close that I can visit with Bertha and park up by the sea. There is something quite relaxing about listening to the sound of the sea. At this time of year, with the winds getting up, that sound is of course amplified. Get it right and it’s very rewarding, get it wrong however…

Let’s just say, 12 months on, I’m still finding sand. We took a bit of a battering from the wind one night, which was ok at the time. However, the next morning was a different story, as the wind had blown up a large amount of sand. Not a problem I hear you say? Well, I’m afraid you would be wrong there!

Thw wise will already know this, sand gets everywhere! It managed to find it’s way into every nook and cranny going on the van. It also annoying proved the seal on the back door is less than perfect! Sand even ended up in the boot space, through a supposedly closed door.

Lesson learned on that one!
