Fiat Ducato Indicator Repeater

Replacing Indicator Repeater Bulbs

This is for you if you have an indicator repeater light not working on a Fiat Ducato, Citroen Relay or Peugeot Boxer of a model year around 2008. For a basic item it can be a very infuriating MOT fail. The good news is that it is a very simple fix that will just cost a couple of pounds to resolve and should take now mare than 5 to 10 minutes of your time.

Effectively there are only 5 steps to replace the bulb as detailed below and as I’ve already said should take no more than 5 – 10 minutes to do. I went further and changed the whole light unit as well as the ones on Bertha were showing their age. Over time the lenses had gone very yellow and looked tired. Equally as the widest point on any of these models they are prone to getting caught on items and becoming cracked and damaged. The good news is the replacement unit as shown below is easily purchased on ebay for less the £10 and can be done yourself as fast as changing the bulb.

Replacing the indicator repeater bulb

In case you have got this far and still are not sure, we are talking about the indicator that is built into the wing mirror on these models.

Step One: Remove the two visible screws on the face of the mirror nearest the van window. These are on a plastic plate that holds the outer casing in place. Take both screws and the plate and put in a safe place.

Step 2: Remove the outer housing for the wing mirror. This just gently pulls off once you have completed step one.

Step 3: Push the outside of the actual mirror as far back in its casing as you can. Do this step gently with your fingers. This will then reveal two small screws that are normally hidden by the lense of the wing mirror.

Step 4: Remove the two screws and place safely to one side. At this stage you can then pull the lense out from the outside of the mirror. Once you have done this, you can now access the bulb to change it.

Step 5: Reverse steps 1 – 4 in order to reassemble having swapped the bulb.

When you do this it is a very simple task. However, it is important to make sure you have somewhere safe to place the screws and parts you have removed. As you will see when you come to do it, they are small and easily lost.

Bulb Size

Not sure which bulb you need? The answer for a 2008 Fiat Ducato is 921A bulb in Amber / Orange with a specification of being a 12v bulb. The replacement bulb should also be rated at 18w.

This information took me a while to find, because at some point Bertha had been converted (badly) to LED fittings and I wanted to put back to standard to improve the look. You may also have a similar challenge if the bulbs have been in place a long time. This means they may well be faded and hard to identify. Also, any marking by this point may have worn off with the advancement of time.

Screw Sizes

For those out there who are like me and a bit ham fisted and prone to dropping screws. Should you need to replace them having lost them in the process of changing the bulb the sizes are as below

  • Wing mirror outer casing screws – these are M3 size with a length of 16mm
  • The retaining screws for the indicator housings are M3 screws with a length of 20mm

Hopefully you have found this post helpful. There is a lot on these vans that is very simple and possible to do yourself. As we have to do these with Bertha we will continue to share our knowledge and learnings.
